A 63-year-old woman was arrested by the Angamaly police on Thursday (November 6, 2025) for allegedly murdering her six-month-old granddaughter. Rosy of Payyappilly, Karippala, Karukutty was arrested by the police, a day after Delna Maria Sara was found dead with her throat slit at her residence. Though the child was rushed to a hospital, her life could not be saved.
According to the police, the accused allegedly fatally stabbed the infant around 9 a.m. on Wednesday when the child was left with her by her mother. The knife used by the woman to commit the alleged crime has been recovered from the premises of the house, police sources said.
The grandmother was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday as she was found unconscious by the police who searched the house after the hospital authorities reported the suspected crime. Police sources said the woman was under their surveillance since Wednesday and her arrest was recorded after she was discharged from the hospital.
The woman has been charged with murder. She was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate, Angamaly and remanded.
The police said the motive behind the crime was not yet clear though they suspect issues within the family to be the trigger. A police team comprising DySP T R Rajeshkumar and Inspector A Ramesh is probing the case.
