The police have registered a case under non-bailable sections against around 50 unidentified persons after a group allegedly obstructed a Kudumbashree flash mob organised as part of an election-related Green Protocol awareness campaign.
According to the FIR, the accused attempted to disrupt the event, which was held as part of a march promoting adherence to the Green Protocol during the 2025 local body elections. The group reportedly stopped the programme at Uliathaduka town, claiming it should not be conducted near a place of worship during afternoon prayers.
The police said the disturbance was caused by individuals suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, who allegedly assaulted the performers, a group of Kudumbashree women. Video footage of the incident has since surfaced.
The awareness drive, flagged off by District Collector K. Inbasekhar at the Collectorate, is being implemented by the District Suchitwa Mission, Kudumbashree District Mission, and the district administration. The campaign aims to sensitise political parties and voters on following Green guidelines during electioneering and to encourage voter participation.
The programme is being conducted across all five constituencies, with Kudumbashree teams performing flash mobs in colleges as well. The police have collected statements from Kudumbashree workers, and the investigation is under way.
