The police on Thursday arrested a groom and his parents in connection with an illegal marriage of a 13-year-old girl at Thurakapalem village, acting on the orders of District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal.
The accused have been identified as Korivi Daniel, the groom, his father Samson and mother Nirmala.
Guntur South DSP G. Bhanodaya, who led the investigation, said action would also be initiated against the girl’s grandmother and the church pastor who solemnised the marriage of the minor in violation of child protection laws. The case came to light after the minor girl contacted Child Welfare and Protection authorities, saying that she had been forced into marriage on May 9, 2025.
Acting on a complaint from Nakka Naga Brahmam Naidu, Panchayat Secretary and member of the Child Welfare Committee, Nallapadu police registered a case under BNS, POCSO Act and PCMA.
DSP Bhanodaya said action would also be taken against all those individuals responsible.
