Fans eager to return to Vice City will have to wait a little longer. Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VIonce again, moving its release date from May to November 19, 2026.

The announcement came during parent company Take-Two Interactive’s quarterly earnings report, marking the second major delay for the highly anticipated open-world title. Originally slated for a 2025 debut, GTA 6 has now spent over a decade in development, making it one of the most awaited games in modern history.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did not provide a specific reason for the postponement but emphasized the studio’s commitment to delivering an exceptional product. “We remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience,” Zelnick said in a letter to shareholders. Speaking to Variety, he added, “Rockstar Games believes a limited amount of additional time is required for polish.”
Rockstar echoed that sentiment in a statement posted on X, writing, “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
The delay follows recent layoffs at Rockstar’s U.K. studio, though Take-Two has stated the two matters are “entirely separate.” The studio maintains that the terminated employees had violated company policies by sharing confidential information.

Despite the setback, anticipation for GTA 6 remains sky-high. The game will take players to the sprawling state of Leonida, featuring a modern-day reimagining of Vice City. Industry analysts predict it could become the fastest-selling entertainment product in history once released.
Until then, fans will have to hold tight — Grand Theft Auto VI won’t hit shelves until late 2026.
