The indefinite agitation launched by guest lecturers opposing the counselling process being held by the government for selection of guest faculty entered the sixth day in Gadag on Saturday. Meanwhile, various organisations have extended support to the ongoing agitation.
The grouse of the protesting guest lecturers is that many of them who had been in service since long had not been considered for the counselling process on the pretext of not having requisite qualification.
Prof. Kuberappa who met the protesting guest faculty on Saturday expressed solidarity with them and called upon the guest lecturers to stay united till their demands were met. He advised them not to speak against any political party and try to build pressure on the government to consider all of them for the counselling process.
He said the officials of Higher Education Department were bent on dividing the guest lecturers on the basis of their qualification and had gone ahead with the counselling process. He told them that there was scope for questioning the process in the court of law.
Expressing solidarity with the protesters, noted doctor from Gadag Shivanagouda took exception to the ongoing counselling process. Advocate Hadapad said it was sad that those who shaped the future of children were being pushed to the streets to protest against the injustice to them.
On Saturday, guest lecturers from various places, including Raichur, Udupi and other places, participated in the indefinite agitation.
State president of the Association of Guest Lecturers Hanumanthgouda Kalmani announced that the agitation would continue till their demands were met.
