The guru puja (memorial day) of the freedom fighters Marudhu Brothers was observed at their memorial at Kalayarkoil in Sivaganga district on Monday.

A large number of people, and leaders of various political parties and organisations paid their respects to the freedom fighters.

As part of the guru puja observance at the memorial, pujas and associated rituals were performed early in the morning, after which over 500 women carried paal kudam (milk pots) as an offering.

Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam paid his respect at the memorial and presented 6.5-kg silver armours for the statues of Marudhu Brothers.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, DMK leaders Kadhar Basha Muthuramalingam and Pon. Muthuramalingam, and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman paid their respect to the Marudhu Brothers’ statues at the memorial.

Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Madurai North MLA G. Thalapathy, Madurai South MLA M. Boominathan among other party leaders paid respect to the statues of Marudhu Brothers at Teppakulam in Madurai.
