Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation receives award for its project ‘Vision on Wheels’

Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation, a public charitable trust of Radhakrishna Nethralaya Tertiary Eye Care Hospital, Chennai, has been presented an award at the tenth edition of the HCL Tech Grant, for its ‘Vision on Wheels: The Rural Teleophthalmology Project’.

Under this project, babies of underprivileged parents were screened for a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) from the villages in rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The babies who were found to have this condition were immediately taken to Radhatri Nethralaya for free vision preserving treatment.

The foundation has received the award among 1,300 applications from across the country in the health category, according to a press release. 

Vasumathy Vedantham, managing trustee of the foundation, Praveen Krishna, trustee and Madhavan, honorary consultant, received the award at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi recently.

Krishna, trustee of the foundation and medical director, Radhatri Nethralaya, said, their team travels even up to 365 kms from Chennai to screen the babies in villages.
