The HAL police on Monday (November 24) arrested a 24-year-old gym trainer along with five of his associates for allegedly robbing two women techies by posing as policemen while the women were having a late night birthday party at their house last week.
The police tracked down the accused and arrested Mohammed Najash, a gym trainer, and his associates K.T. Vinu, 23, M. Sarun, 38, Diwakar, 34, Madhu Kumar, 32, and Kiran, 29.
According to the police, the victim, a native of West Bengal who was working as software engineer, met the prime accused Najash at a cafeteria a few days ago and the duo became friends.
On November 6, the victim invited Najash to her birthday party, which he attended with Vinu. Upon noticing her lavish life, he chalked up a plan to rob her. He then called up Sarun and asked him to rope in few others to execute the plan the same night.
After a while, the accused knocked on the door saying they were Swiggy delivery boys. They then barged into the house posing as policemen and proceeded to conduct checks and threatened to book the victims in a drugs case. The victims pleaded innocence, but the accused demanded ₹5 lakh to drop the charges. The victims expressed that they did not have any money, following which the accused took their mobile phones and asked them to arrange the money. They said they would come back the next day and then left the spot.
Shocked, the victims narrated the ordeal to their friends and based on their advice, approached the police. The police checked the call record details of Najash and the CCTV footage before zeroing in on the accused. They registered a case of robbery. The accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
