The “SUSTAINATHON” hackathon got off to a start on Tuesday at the H. Kempegowda Sports Complex at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) here.

The event was organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and presided over by Gundappa Gowda, honorary president of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Mysuru. Anoop Srikantaswamy, CEO of MoonRider.AI, Bengaluru, was the chief guest.

In his address, Mr. Srikantaswamy encouraged students to seek advice from everyone but make their own informed decisions. He urged them to ‘identify the unique superpower that differentiates you from others’, motivating participants to embrace individuality and innovation.

The hackathon was designed around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), challenging students to develop sustainable, impactful, and technologically sound solutions to address real-world societal issues, a press release said.

About 54 teams participated in the event. Students from Mangalore, Belagavi, Dharwad, Bengaluru, Erode (Tamil Nadu), and several other regions competed for the prizes.
