The Kerala High Court will watch the Malayalam feature film Haal on Wednesday, prior to deciding on an appeal filed by the Catholic Congress against a single judge’s order to grant ‘A’ certification to the film without deleting some scenes pertaining to the Christian community.
It warned of imposing costs if there is no objectionable content as alleged by the organisation in the film. The single judge had watched the movie here a month ago. The matter was posted for hearing on December 4.
The Catholic Congress contended before the court that the film portrayed the Thamarassery Bishop as a supporter of inter-faith marriages whereas his known stance was otherwise. This was defamatory, hurt the sentiments of the Christian community, and could disturb peace in society, it said.
This was after the court allowed the organisation to implead itself in a petition filed by the filmmakers who expressed concern at the Central Board of Film Certification’s revision committee seeking the removal of half-a-dozen scenes from the movie.
