In yet another embarrassment to Bengaluru City Police, a head constable of a Cyber Crime police station has been accused of stealing ₹11 lakh belonging to a suspect during an interrogation inside the Bengaluru City Police Headquarters.

Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that an inquiry was under way and assured of stringent action.

However, no FIR has been registered and the accused policeman was not arrested, when last checked on Thursday.

The incident reportedly happened on November 30 and came to light on December 1.

An accused in a cybercrime case, who had secured bail recently, had been brought in for questioning to the city headquarters. The accused had allegedly kept around ₹11 lakh in the vehicle when he was taken in for questioning.

When he finished the formalities and returned home, he reportedly found the cash missing.

He went and asked the Cyber Crime police who checked the CCTV footage and reportedly found constable Zabiullah taking a bag from the car.

Sources said that the Central Crime Branch raided his house and recovered part of the cash hidden under the bed. He had also allegedly bought gold jewellery for his wife and tried to obstruct the search as well.

This is the latest in a series of misconduct cases involving police personnel in the city. Recently, a constable attached to the Govindapura police station was arrested in the ATM cash van robbery case, and two J.P. Nagar police personnel were suspended for allegedly extorting money from a senior citizen.

The Bellandur police were also accused of collecting money from a family in a death case.
