The fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge, Puttur, has adjourned to November 4 the hearing on the anticipatory bail application filed by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.
One Eshwari Padmunja had filed a complaint at the Puttur Rural police station on October 25 accusing Mr. Bhat of making an inflammatory statements in a speech during the Deepotsava programme at Uppalige in Puttur taluk on October 20. In the speech, Mr. Bhat is seen asking Hindu women to give birth to more children, while saying that Muslim women were delivering more than two children.
The Puttur Rural police registered her complaint against Mr. Bhat and the event organisers under Sections 79, 196, 299, 302, and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Mr. Bhat filed an application before the court on October 27 under Section 482 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, seeking bail in anticipation of his arrest in the case. While adjourning the case to October 29, the court passed an interim order directing the police not to initiate any coercive action against Mr. Bhat till the next date of hearing.
On the same day, advocate P.K. Satishan appeared on behalf of Ms. Padmunja and sought time to file an objection to Mr. Bhat’s application. The Public Prosecutor also sought time. The court posted the case to November 4 for filing objections, while extending the interim order till disposal of the anticipatory bail application.
