Indirectly hitting out at Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that India knows how to maintain peace and protect itself.
Speaking at the ‘Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana’ programme organised by Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Puthige Mutt in Udupi, Mr. Modi said, “Hum shanti ki sthapana bhi jaante hai aur shanti ki raksha karna bhi jaante hai (We know how to establish peace and also how to maintain it and safeguard the country)”.
The programm was a devotional gathering of about one lakh participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various walks of life, who recited verses from 18 chapters of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita in unison.
Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister said that when such terrorist attacks occurred earlier, governments (hinting at the previous Congress-led Centre) would sit idle. “But this is ‘Naya Bharat’ (a new India) that neither bows before anyone nor wavers from its duty to protect its citizens”.
The Prime Minister said that Lord Sri Krishna preached the Bhagavad Gita on the battlefield. “The Gita teaches us that to establish peace and truth, the end of oppressors is also necessary. This is the core sentiment of India’s security policy”.
Mr. Modi said that India speaks of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The world is a family) and also reiterates the mantra ‘Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah’ (Dharma will protect the one who upholds it).
From the Red Fort, the message of Sri Krishna’s compassion is conveyed, and from the same ramparts the announcement of Mission Sudarshan Chakra is also made, he said.
“Mission Sudarshan Chakra means building a protective wall around the country’s key locations, its industrial and public sectors, which the enemy cannot breach, and if the enemy dares to show audacity, then India’s Sudarshan Chakra will destroy them,” the Prime Minister said.
Stating that the Bhagavad Gita makes people aware of their duties and life commitments. Inspired by this, he urged everyone to adopt nine resolutions in life. They include water conservation, afforestation, uplifting at least one person from poverty, promotion of “swadeshi” products and technology, natural farming, healthy living by reducing oil consumption, daily yoga practice, conservation of manuscripts, and visiting at least 25 places connected to Indian heritage.
Earlier, during his visit to the Sri Krishna Mutt, Mr. Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Tirtha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) to the Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which Saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.
On the way to the mutt from Udupi helipad, he conducted a road show from Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle to Kalsanka in Udupi.
