The government has declared public holidays on December 9 and 11 for all public offices and educational institutions and paid holidays for commercial undertakings in the State in connection with the upcoming general election to local self-government bodies
December 9 will be a holiday for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam, where as the holiday on December 11 will be applicable in the districts of Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
Government employees who are voters of a particular LSG constituency where polling is taking place but who are serving/employed in an office/institution located in the districts where the poll-related holiday is not applicable, may be granted Other Duty status, or any Special Leaves available in SPARK (excluding Casual Leave, Commuted Leave, or Earned Leave ), as per their convenience, on the election dates, according to the GO issued by the General Administration department.
Every person employed in any commercial establishment, trading establishment, industrial establishment, or any other establishment in the private sector, and who is entitled to vote in the Panchayat/Municipality election, shall be granted a holiday on the day of the General Election.
It is also stipulated that no deduction or abatement of the wages of any such person shall be made on account of a holiday having been granted in this manner.
The Labour Commissioner will make necessary arrangements with all private enterprises including IT sector, private industrial centres and other private institutions under the Shops and Commercial Establishment Act to declare the day of polls as paid holiday for all their employees.
Employees including daily wage/casual workers who are voters of a constituency where poll is taking place, but serving/employed in an industrial undertaking or an establishment located outside that constituency where he/she is resident have to be given the benefit of paid holiday on the day of polling.
