Neeraj Ghaywan’s critically acclaimed drama, Homebound, is coming on OTT. The film, which was selected as India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards, is set to be released on Netflix on November 21, the streamer announced on Thursday. It stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Homebound tells the story of two childhood friends, Shoaib (Ishaan) and Chandan (Vishal) who chase a police job that promises them dignity but are trapped in India’s brutal socio-political reality. The film is based on journalist Basharat Peer’s 2020 New York Times article, ‘Taking Amrit Home’. It is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese serves as the executive producer along with Pravin Khairnar.

Speaking about the OTT release, Neeraj said in a statement, “Inspired by a true story of friendship, Homebound explores the universal themes of connection and compassion as forms of quiet resistance. After screening in competition at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and loved by everyone, it has now found a home on Netflix, reaching audiences in 190 countries.”

Karan added, “As producers, supporting a film like this has been a privilege. Seeing the film reach Netflix allows it to connect with audiences far beyond its immediate world, and that journey is incredibly special for us at Dharma.”

After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) earlier this year, Homebound was released in theatres on September 26, 2025.
