Calligrapher Narayana Bhattathiri has been appointed honorary director of the World Calligraphy Association.
The announcement was made at the inaugural of the Cheongju Jikji International Calligraphy Exhibition in South Korea on November 6.
This is the first time that an Indian is taking up the position, a statement here on Tuesday said.
Mr. Bhattathiri was also a jury member of this year’s Jikji International Calligraphy Exhibition.
The World Script Calligraphy Association, Korea, chaired by Kim Dong-Yeon, and the Ka Cha Ta Tha Pa Foundation with Mr. Bhattathiri as chairman signed an agreement to promote friendship and consensus through exchanges and cooperation.
They will together host exhibitions and workshops and conduct exchange and educational programmes for calligraphers and researchers, the statement said.
