A few weeks after sending the site clearance application for the Hosur airport, the Tamil Nadu government has now begun to look for a consultant to prepare the comprehensive Detailed Techno-Economic Report (DTER).
To enhance the regional industrial growth, the State government has been pushing to improve the air connectivity in Hosur and has begun the process to establish an airport. The consultant will have a multitude of tasks from preparation of the DTER, master plan, financial model, surveys and assisting the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) Ltd., the nodal agency for this project, to get the necessary clearances to establish the airport.Â
According to TIDCO, Hosur airport planned over 2,300 acres with a handling capacity of 30 million passengers a year will have a single runway, dual parallel taxiway and will be developed to accommodate Code 4E aircraft operations with precision approach CAT III (that aids in landing during very poor visibility conditions).
TIDCO has now issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to finalise a consultant. The chosen consultant will first have to review the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) survey data.

In the DTER, among several other assessments, they have to present an air traffic projection for the proposed airport and provide passenger and aircraft movement and cargo traffic trends for all airports within 150 km for the past 15 years. They have to evaluate the effect of airports like Bengaluru International Airport on the proposed airport at Hosur, the different types of city side and airside infrastructure facilities which have to be ready to cater to the traffic, commercial facilities and the parking facilities which have to be developed.
Aerotropolis and master plan
Notably, TIDCO will also assess the possibility of developing Hosur as an ‘Aerotropolis’ and the consultant will have to find the land requirements for it accordingly.Â
Masterplan will comprise airside facilities such as number, length of the runway, parking stands, landside facilities, MRO, land use planning, phase wise development of the airport, project deadlines, establishing the connectivity infrastructure and other aviation related facilities.
This aside, the consultant will also carry out the Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Plan and social impact studies
