Teynampet police arrested a domestic help on charges of stealing gold jewellery from a house in Alwarpet and recovered three gold chains weighing 41.5 grams.
Police said Ajay Ayyappan, 40, a businessman residing on T.T.K. Road, Alwarpet, had employed Shenbagam, 43, through a private agency to look after his two children. She had been working at the house for about a year.
On November 26, Ajay Ayyappan noticed that three gold chains — one belonging to his child and two belonging to his wife — kept in a cupboard were missing. Suspecting Shenbagam, he lodged a complaint with the crime wing of the Teynampet police station, following which a case was registered and an investigation was launched.
During the inquiry, police found that Shenbagam had allegedly stolen the jewellery in small quantities. She was arrested and the stolen gold chains were recovered.
