Acting on a tip-off from local people, the sanitary supervisory staff of the Kaup Town Municipal Council (TMC) on Monday made a lorry driver from Hyderabad remove the trash dumped by him on the highway side. The Kaup TMC imposed ₹2,000 as penalty on the driver for dumping the waste on the side of NH 66 in Kaup in Udupi district.

An official from the Kaup TMC said driver Ravi had brought some material to an organisation in Mangaluru. While returning, he dumped the waste by the side of NH 66 in Koppalangady.

Residents objected and asked the driver and his helper to remove the waste. The two refused and continued the journey.

Residents called the local councillor who, in turn, informed the TMC sanitary supervisory staff. The members of the supervisory staff tracked the lorry and stopped it near Katpady junction. The driver was made to drive 5 km back to Kaup, pay the penalty, and remove the trash. He was allowed to proceed only later.
