The Nehru Zoological Park has once again received ISO 9001:2015 certification, becoming the only zoo in the country to earn it for the sixth consecutive time.

Zoo curator J. Vasantha received the certificate from Environment and Forests Minister Konda Surekha on Tuesday, noting that the recognition reflects the zoo’s consistent quality of services, transparent processes, animal protection, standards of maintenance, ticketing and visitor services, emergency response and skill development. She added that the zoo has also secured a five-star rating.

The Minister also launched the Forest department’s Tiger Protection Cell from the Secretariat, describing it as the first initiative of its kind in the country.

The department has launched a modern Tiger Monitoring Cell and Command Hub to improve protection for both wildlife and nearby communities. Ms.Surekha said the system will enable real-time monitoring of tiger reserves. The State Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad now linked to new regional hubs in Mannanur and Mancherial which will use CCTV cameras, camera traps and GPS tracking to track tiger movement round the clock, allowing staff to respond quickly to poaching attempts or unauthorised entry.

She added that the new system will also enhance safety for people living near forest areas, as the team will immediately get an alert if tiger movement is detected near a village. All field officers have been instructed to upload daily reports by 5.30 p.m. to ensure accurate, timely information for decision-making.
