The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has stepped in to prevent large-scale encroachment of park and public utility land in Kondapur village of Serilingampally mandal, Ranga Reddy district, and fenced off nearly four acres of different land parcels to protect them from further illegal occupation.
The Sri Venkateswara HAL Colony was developed in the 1980s over an extent of 57.20 acres, comprising 627 residential plots. As part of the approved layout, two parks of 1.2 acres each, another two acres, and around 1,000 square yards of land for public amenities were allotted. However, over the years, these open spaces were allegedly sub-divided, converted into residential plots, and sold off.
The Sri Venkateswara HAL Residents’ Welfare Association, which had been fighting the issue in the High Court, approached HYDRAA through Prajavani programme.
During the inspection based on court directions, HYDRAA officials found that one of the 1.2-acre parks was illegally divided into 11 plots and sold. Two other parks and the public utility site were also encroached upon in a similar manner.
The association representatives informed HYDRAA that the layout was made during the 1980s, and some of those who dealt with these land later sold them to real estate companies and other individuals.
Due to these transactions, access to the park land was blocked and residents were not even allowed to approach them, the locals told during field inspection, a statement from HYDRAA informed.
