A large number of runners participated in the marathon organised by the Indian Air Force on Sunday. The ‘Sekhon Memorial Indian Air Force Marathon’ was organised to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force.
The marathon organised with the theme “Run – Be Great – Be Inspired” was held at two stations of Tambaram and Avadi under three categories of 21 km, 10 km and 5 km.
Air Commodore Tapan Sharma Flagged off the marathon at Tambaram Air Force Station while Air Commodore Pradeep Sharma and Air Force Station Commander flagged off the marathon at Avadi. The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon was held to honour the gallantry of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only Indian Air Force officer to be awarded the country’s highest military award, the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
