Leaders of INDIA bloc on Tuesday held a demonstration near Anna Salai to protest against the conduct of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the Union Territory.
They criticised the Election Commission of India (EC) for going ahead with the SIR exercise despite objections raised by Opposition parties. The exercise should have been carried out after the Assembly polls. It was unwarranted on the part of the EC to conduct the revision in a hurry, they said.
Those who participated in the demonstration, included former Chief Minister and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and chief of Pradesh Congress Committee V. Vaithilingam, Opposition leader and DMK convenor R. Siva, CPI secretary A. M. Saleem, CPI (M) secretary S. Ramachandran and VCK principal secretary Deva Pozhilan.Â
