Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India), on Thursday, said that it delivered the country’s first indigenously manufactured 220kV Mobile Gas-Insulated Switchgear (m-GIS) System to Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID).

The system was flagged off from TTDI’s manufacturing facility in Telangana. GIS is a compact and highly reliable system used for safe and efficient high-voltage power distribution, especially in space-constrained environments.

The 220kV m-GIS System is designed and built in line with POWERGRID’s operational requirements. POWERGRID played a pivotal role in conceptualising and defining the technical contours of the solution, TTDI undertook the development and manufacturing. The m-GIS offers rapid deployment and enhances grid flexibility, resilience and disaster-readiness, the company said in a release.

TTDI is proud to collaborate with POWERGRID for an indigenous solution to support the critical application and needs in EHV GRID network in India. The delivery reinforces the company’s commitment to Make in India, TTDI Chairman and Managing Director Hiroshi Furuta said.

An indigenous 132kV m-GIS Solution is scheduled for delivery to POWERGRID next month. The company expects to deliver first indigenous 400kV m-GIS System in August 2026 to the same customer.
