A solution for their demand for individual pattas remains elusive for a sizeable section of residents of Tholampalayam village in Mettupalayam Taluk, for the last 100 years.
Since the Chitta is in the name of Coimbatore Jilla Board president, the residents whose ancestors were beneficiaries of free pattas, have not been able to secure the benefit of subsidy schemes of the government, in the absence of individual pattas. They are also unable to sell their properties or secure bank loans for re-construction or improvement of existing houses, P. Kandasamy, State Secretary of Vivasayigal Sangam (non-political) said.
Espousing the cause of farmers, Mr. Kandasamy has submitted a petition to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin through the Additional Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
The district authorities are learnt to have forwarded the grievance of the farmers to the government a year ago.
“While on the one hand, officials camp in villages to promptly redress the grievances of people in rural parts, a representation made to the government has not been addressed for more than a year,” Mr. Kandasamy lamented. As many as 168 families have not been able to secure individual pattas for their residences
The residents who have been assigned door numbers unfailingly pay the property tax, water tax, and power charges from the address, which is also utilised for issuance of aadhar cards, voter identity cards, bank pass books, family cards and driving licences, Mr. Kandasamy pointed out, making a case for a prompt solution to the issue.
