A compensation amount of ₹1.15 crore from the National Insurance company was handed over to the family of Drishana, a nine-year-old child who has been in a coma for around a year after a hit-and-run accident at Chorode. Drishana’s father Sudheer accepted the compensation from Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) judge K. Rajesh on the district court premises on Wednesday (November 26, 2025).

The tribunal had earlier issued an order for the immediate settlement of the compensation claim finding it as a crucial lifeline for the ongoing intensive medical care for the injured girl.

The hit-and-run incident took place on February 17, 2024, when Dirshana and her grandmother were crossing the road at Chorode near Vadakara. The elderly woman died on the spot. The accused Methil Punathil Shajeel, who had fled the spot after the accident, was nabbed after a year long investigation into the incident.
