Inter-State drug cartel busted, 4 arrested

The Delhi police have recently busted an inter-state drug syndicate. Four persons have been arrested and about 3.15 kg of charas, worth ₹1.2 crore, has been recovered, the police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Chunni Lal, his wife, Prakash Chand, and Yogesh Kolambekar, have been part of the cartel.

The police filed an FIR under Sections 20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

On October 22, the police received a tip-off that a member of an inter-State drug cartel would be coming to Delhi to supply charas. The accused, identified as Chunni Lal, a resident of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, was known to supply charas in the Delhi-NCR region. Acting on the information, a team of investigators laid a trap and apprehended Chunni Lal and his wife near Mukandpur Chowk in Delhi.

During the investigation, the police discovered the involvement of another suspect, Prakash Chand, who was arrested on October 28 in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. A fourth accused, identified as Yogesh Kolambekar, a resident of Mumbai, was arrested on October 24 from Mukarba Chowk in Delhi, and 1.92 kg of charas was recovered from him.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the demand for charas increases in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai during the festive season and various events. 

Further investigation into the cases is under way to identify other suppliers and recipients of the contraband, the police said.
