Asserting that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll will be the ‘hero’ of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 as it will comb-out the bogus voters, former minister and Kovilpatti MLA Kadambur C. Raju has said the filled-in SIR forms should be received only by the Booth Level Officers and not by the representatives of political parties.

Speaking to reporters after submitting a petition to District Collector K. Elambahavath on Friday, Mr. Raju said distribution of forms for SIR of electoral roll by the Booth Level Officers had begun to enroll all eligible voters in the electoral roll even as the representatives of the political parties were monitoring it. If the filled-in SIR forms were received by the booth agents of political parties, it would lead to irregularities. Hence, the filled-in forms should be received only by the Booth Level Officers and not by the representatives of the political parties.

“Pressing this demand, we’ve submitted a petition to the District Collector,” said Mr. Raju.

The former minister alleged that the ruling DMK booth agents, after threatening the Booth Level Officers in some places, were distributing the forms directly to the voters. The DMK union secretary of Kovilpatti was distributing the SIR forms at Lingapatti under Kovilpatti Assembly constituency to the voters, which should not be allowed.

“Besides taking stringent action against the DMK union secretary under question for violating the rule, the Collector should strictly instruct the Booth Level Officers to distribute the forms directly to the voters and not through the representatives of the political parties. The SIR should be completed with utmost care and in unbiased manner. If the violation is allowed despite our resistance, we’ll petition the Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India seeking action against all erring officers,” Mr. Raju warned.

He accused the DMK of having enrolled 10,000 to 12,000 bogus voters in every Assembly constituency and hence the ruling party was trembling in fear after SIR of electoral roll started in Tamil Nadu also while the AIADMK had nothing to hide.

“The SIR, which will remove all bogus voters from the electoral roll will be the hero of Assembly polls 2026,” Mr. Raju said.

On the Coimbatore gang rape case, he said the allies of the DMK and the women leaders of the ruling party were refusing to condemn and speak against this ‘failed government’ as “heinous crimes were happening across Tamil Nadu everyday”.

When asked about the recent expulsion of senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan from the AIADMK, Mr. Raju said: “Weeds should be removed for nourishing the crop, which is applicable to AIADMK also”.
