Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has lambasted his predecessor Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for “bankrupting the State, misusing Central funds, and crippling welfare and housing projects.”

Addressing a public meeting after virtually launching the ‘Saamuhika Gruhapravesams’ (mass housing-warming ceremonies), at Devagudipalli village of Chinnamandem mandal in Annamayya district on November 12, 2025 (Wednesday), Mr. Naidu termed Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s five-year rule as “atrocious,” which “pushed the State into a deep financial crisis and chaos.”

“The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had mortgaged the State for indiscriminate loans, and not a single rupee was spent wisely. Even the Central government funds were diverted at whim. The YSRCP leaders looted everything. They did not spare even the sand meant for helping the poor construct their dream homes,” Mr. Naidu alleged.

Continuing his tirade, the Chief Minister alleged that 4.73 lakh houses sanctioned during the earlier Telugu Desam Party government’s term were cancelled by the YSRCP regime. The dispensation headed by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had allotted house sites to the public in the areas unfit for human habitation, he said, adding that the YSRCP deliberately derailed the State’s housing schemes and halted the welfare schemes for the poor.

“Every system that stood for the uplift of the poor has been destroyed. It will take a very long time to rebuild the State, and I am at it,” Mr. Naidu said.

Stating that the NDA administration represented a “government for the poor” that was determined to undo the damages, Mr. Naidu said, “We have a plethora of financial constraints, but we are committed to fulfilling all our promises.”

“That is the reason why we are performing gruhapravesams for three lakh houses across the State in a single day under the Pedalandariki Illu (Houses for All the Poor) scheme,” Mr. Naidu said, pledging to complete the construction of the remaining units soon. “As many as 5.9 lakh houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by 2026,” he said.

“My goal is to ensure that every poor family in Andhra Pradesh owns a house by 2029,” the Chief Minister asserted, highlighting that “a home is not just four walls but a symbol of dignity and security.” He said that the SC, ST, and BC communities were given top priority in the housing scheme. “With unwavering commitment, we are set to achieve the Swarna Andhra Pradesh goal by 2047,” he added.

Mr. Naidu said the government expedited the process of registering the names of the homeless families. He said care was being taken to allot adjoining houses to members of the same family to strengthen social bond.

Renewable energy

Referring to the Renewable Energy (RE) sector, the Chief Minister called on the housing beneficiaries to install rooftop solar panels. “We are leaving no stone unturned to generate power from the sun, wind, and water. Every house and farm should turn into a precious source of energy,” Mr. Naidu said.

Highlighting the coalition government’s priority to industrial development, Mr. Naidu said that 97 new industries were inaugurated at Kanigiri on November 11, 2025 (Tuesday).

Envisaging at least one entrepreneur in every family, for which the MSME parks had been planned in all the Assembly constituencies, he said women would be encouraged and trained to become entrepreneurs.

Ministers K. Parthasarathy (Housing) and M. Ramprasad Reddy (Transport), District Collector Nishant Kumar, MLAs from the district and leaders of the coalition parties were present.
