Members of Tamil Nadu Jallikattu Welfare Association staged a protest outside District Collector Office here on Monday alleging corruption practice by jallikattu commentators.

They said that the world famous jallikattu events in Alanganallur, Palamedu and Avaniapuram would take place annually during the Pongal festival.

As the commentary for the events was being done by commentators brought in from various other districts, including Pudukkottai and Tiruchi, an issue of receiving money from bull owners in return for repeated praise was observed, the protesters added.

“Such commentators who receive money from the bull owners engage in unnecessary praising of bulls and announcing the name of specific bulls even before the victory is announced,” they alleged.

Due to this, they said that the bull owners who would not pay were forced to send their bulls without even having their names announced.

As this causes confusion during the day-long events, the district administration should handpick the commentators based on genuineness and should also change the commentators after every round.
