James Patteril will be ordained as the second Bishop of Belthangady Diocese on November 5.
The episcopal ordination and assumption of office will take place at St. Lawrence Cathedral Church, Belthangady.
Raphael Thattil, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, Joseph Pamplany, Archbishop of Tellicherry, Peter Machado, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bengaluru, Andrews Thazhath, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), and Andrea Francia, Deputy of the Apostolic Nuncio, will be among those present at the occasion, a release from the diocese said on Monday.
The episcopal ordination is a sacred liturgical ceremony during which the new Bishop is anointed as an apostolic successor. Following the religious service, a public felicitation will be held in honour of the new Bishop, Mr. Patteril, and the retiring Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy.
Mr. Mukkuzhy will retire from the office of Bishop on November 5.
