The 15-day Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas, organised by State and Union governments’ Tribal wing, began at the office of Tribal Cultural Research and Training Mission (TCR&TM) here on Saturday (November 1). The celebration was made to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Bhagavan Birsa Munda and to commemorate the sacrifice and courage exhibited by the unsung tribal freedom fighters in the country.

The State-level festival was inaugurated through the flagging off of a carnival by TCR&TM director S. Bhargavi and Visakhapatnam District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad at Rushikonda.

Tribal artistes from various ITDAs participated in the event, showcasing various traditional tribal dances like Dimsa, Mayuri, Kommu Koya and Savara. The carnival from Rushikonda Beach road to TCR&TM office was followed by lighting of the lamp and sapling planting on the office premises. Later, the inaugural meeting was held at TCR&TM-Visakhapatnam.

Ms. Bhargavi briefed the participants on the series of events scheduled from village level to State level and said that the objective behind the celebrations is to pay rich tributes for selfless sacrifices done during the freedom struggle and to ensure that every tribesperson receives the benefits of various welfare and development schemes implemented by Union and State governments.
