The State-level Tribal Sports Meet was inaugurated at the GITAM College Grounds, under the aegis of the Tribal Cultural Research and Training Mission (TCR&TM) as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (JJGD) 2025 celebrations.
Mission executive director Rani Manda said that tribal participants from Seethampeta, Parvathipuram, Paderu, RC Varam, KR Puram, Chintoor, Srisailam and Nellore ITDAs of the State were participating in events such as kabaddi, volleyball, and archery, showcasing both physical prowess and the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities.
The opening day witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, tribal youth, officials, and members of the public, making it a fitting tribute to the legacy and valour of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, whose 150th birth anniversary is being celebrated as part of the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas, she added.
The two-day sports meet will conclude with a valedictory function and prize distribution ceremony.
As part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas fete, a three-day State-Level Tribal Festival and Girijana Santha was inaugurated at the YMCA Beach Road, Visakhapatnam, on Monday. The festival showcases the vibrant cultural diversity and traditional artistry of tribal communities.
