Election authorities refute social media claims of ‘fake voter ID cards’ in Jubilee Hills. The election authorities have denied allegations circulating on social media regarding the presence of fake or duplicate voter identity cards in the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency. Short video clips and images shared across different platforms claimed that large quantities of suspicious voter ID cards had been found ahead of the November 11 bypoll.

According to a release, a preliminary examination has revealed that most of the cards seen in the videos are older versions of the Elector Photo Identity Cards. These earlier cards were issued in a vertical format. The Election Commission of India has since switched to the newer horizontal-format cards which are being issued across the country, resulting in the presence of both formats among legitimate voters.

Taking serious note of the circulation of these visuals, the authorities have initiated legal action. A case has been registered at Tolichowki Police Station to investigate the source of the videos, the intention behind their circulation, and whether there was any attempt to mislead voters or disrupt the election process, the release added.
