
Scholar B.V. Sirur and vocalist Sujata Gurav Kammar will receive the awards in Dharwad on Friday.

Scholar B.V. Sirur has been chosen for the Dr. M.M. Kalbugi Research Award 2025, which will be conferred on him during the 87th birth anniversary celebration of M.M. Kalburgi in Dharwad on Friday.
According to Member-Secretary of Dr. M.M. Kalburgi National Memorial Trust Kumar Bekkeri, the ‘Dr. M.M. Kalburgi Vachana Sangeet Award will be conferred on Hindustani vocalist Sujata Gurav Kammar.
The awards will be presented during the birth anniversary programme to be held at Alur Venkatarao Sabhabhavana in Dharwad at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The rededication of 40 volumes of comprehensive works of M.M. Kalburgi will also be gone through on the occasion.
According to a press release, scholar Hampa Nagarajaiah will release the 40 volumes and confer the awards.
Chairman of the trust Viranna Rajur will preside over the function, while Basavaraj Jagajampi will be the guest.
The award ceremony will be followed by a music concert by vocalist Sujata Gurav Kammar.
Prof. Sirur is a multidisciplinary scholar who has to his credit several research works in Halegannada (Archaic Kannada), epigraphy, Vachana literature, manuscripts.
He has written over 500 research articles and over 70 publications. He has guided over 25 M.Phil and Ph.D candidates and is a recipient of various awards, including Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, and others.
Born into a family of musicians, Sujata Gurav received training at an early age from her father Pandit Sangamesh Gurav and brother Pandit Kaivalyakumar Gurav.
A vocalist of the Kiran Gharana of Hindustani classical music, Sujata holds a master’s degree in music and teaches music at the Karnataka Arts College. She has performed at various music festivals across the country and is a recipient of several awards.
