With the onset of the northeast monsoon, the Kanniyakumari district administration has issued guidelines for tourists and residents.

In a press release, Collector R. Alagumeena urged residents and tourists to avoid visiting waterbodies and sea shores.

The recent rainfall in the district had caused trees to be uprooted in several areas and damaged numerous houses. Officials from the district administration inspected the affected locations and initiated immediate relief measures. Assessments of damaged houses and agricultural lands were under way, and appropriate action would be taken, she said.

Thirty-five houses were reported damaged due to rainfall between October 1 and 25, and compensation had been provided for 32 houses. Approximately 79.4 hectares of agricultural land had submerged, and assessments of crop damage were ongoing.

The Collector also urged fishermen not to venture into the sea due to current weather conditions. Residents can reach out for assistance during the monsoon through 24×7 helpdesk with toll free number 1077, 04652-231077 and 9384056205 during emergencies.
