A 49-year-old goldsmith of Erlapady village in Karkala taluk of Udupi district reportedly lost ₹4.07 lakh in a cybercrime.
In a complaint to the Karkala Town police station on November 8, the victim said that on October 30, he received an APK file named PM Kisan. Soon after he opened it, ₹1.3 lakh and ₹1.03 lakh got deducted from his account in Canara Bank’s Bailoor branch.
On October 31, a total of ₹99,992 got deducted from the same account. Further, on November 2, ₹75,000 got deducted from his account in Karnataka Bank’s Erlapady branch.
The police registered his complaint about the loss of ₹1.74 lakh for offence punishable under Section 66 (D) of Information Technology Act.
