The BJP and the JD(S) lashed out at the Congress government for “neglecting development of the State” and termed as “drama” the breakfast meeting between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and their show of unity.
Leading the charge against the government, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok alleged that there was no coordination between Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar and it was unclear who was effectively leading the State government.
He claimed: “Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar are engaged in a street fight. The Congress high command is weak. The demand of Mr. Shivakumar is the implementation of the 2.5-year power-sharing rule, but Mr. Siddaramaiah is not relinquishing the post.”
Stating that development work has come to a halt in the State, he said some legislators went to Delhi seeking leadership change while others held dinner meetings in a resort in the city. Owing to differences between the two leaders, he said, “officials are not working.”
Union Minister and State JD(S) president H.D. Kumaraswamy said that “a drama is going on.” “We are eagerly waiting for the climax of the drama,” he said.
Mr. Kumaraswamy alleged that “development has collapsed in the State. They are just trying to loot the State.” The government which had taken over with a massive majority had hugely disappointed people, he added.
On session
Meanwhile, Mr. Ashok said the Winter Session of the State legislature should be conducted for 20 days instead of eight, and there should be more discussion on the problems of North Karnataka.
“We in the BJP and the JD(S) are working together. We have exposed several scams, including the MUDA scam, the Valmiki corporation scam, and the stadium stampede case. Now, we have discussed which issues are to be raised in the Belagavi session. We have taken suggestions from Mr. Kumaraswamy and State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra,” Mr. Ashok said.
The two parties held a coordination committee meeting ahead of the session that starts on December 8 at Belagavi.
