The Kerala government is set to launch Kerala Savari 2.0, an improved version of the existing cab hailing application, as a multi-modal transport application linking bus, metro, water metro, taxi and autorickshaw services, Labour Minister V. Sivankutty has said.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, he said that the platform will be launched in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi following which it will be extended to other cities.

Kerala Savari has been implemented in collaboration with the Departments of Police, Transport and Information Technology as well as the Planning Board with the technical assistance of ITI Palakkad. Unlike other online platforms, Kerala Savari works on a subscription basis. The government has fixed rates to ensure higher returns for the drivers. The revised rate of the scheme has come into effect as per the government order dated May 6, 2025, he said.

The shortcomings in the pilot project launched in 2022 have been addressed and trial run conducted in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi from April 2025 under a new team. About 3,000 drivers have been onboarded with a total of 3.6 lakh trips and total revenue of ₹9.36 crore earned by the drivers. Ambulances and goods vehicles can be integrated with the platform after the government fixes the fare, he said.

Dissent to labour codes

Mr. Sivankutty said that he will be participating in the National Conference of Labour and Industry Ministers and Secretaries to be held in Delhi on November 11 and 12. The State’s strong dissent will be raised in the conference regarding the four labour codes of the Union government. Kerala is ready to bring timely reforms in the existing labour laws. However, the State does not agree with the provisions of the current codes that weaken the rights and social security of the workers as well as the freedom to unionise.

The State has expressed its willingness to collaborate on important schemes like Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, expansion of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation coverage and e-Shram Portal, he said.
