Banks across Cyberabad have been urged to establish centralised cyber cells to ensure faster handling of complaints and reduce delays in cybercrime investigations. The development came during a coordination meeting with banks organised by the Cyberabad police on Friday (November 28, 2025), where officials highlighted major concerns over slow responses from banks and growing financial losses faced by victims of online frauds.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty said cybercrime has now surpassed traditional offences such as robbery and snatching in terms of monetary damage, with many citizens losing their life savings to fake investment schemes and other digital scams. He called on banks to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies and provide quicker support to help victims recover their money.

One of the key issues raised was the delay in banks responding to police emails requesting account statements, KYC details and transaction information for investigation. Officials also flagged concerns over slow execution of account freeze orders, delays in confirming the freeze status and processing defreeze requests. Banks were reminded that once a freeze order is issued, no debit transactions should take place and any attempted transaction must be immediately reported.
To streamline investigations, banks were asked to provide account statements in Excel format containing mandatory fields such as narration, transaction ID, debit or credit details and running balance. Beneficiary names must match internal bank records to prevent discrepancies. The police further emphasised the need for robust KYC procedures to curb mule accounts and ensure accountability for suspicious transactions.
Cyberabad police instructed every bank to establish a dedicated Cyber-Crime Response Desk with updated nodal officer contact details and backup staff. “All requests related to freeze/defreeze actions, statements, and KYC must be addressed within a strict turnaround time of 1–3 days,” said the official, stressing that branch employees must be trained in cybercrime coordination protocols, and relationship manager details for corporate accounts should be shared to enable seamless communication.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including DCPs of Medchal, Madhapur and Rajendranagar, along with cybercrime personnel and field officers.
