The King George Hospital (KGH) on Friday (November 07, 2025) refuted the allegations by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) that a patient – V. Devi, who was undergoing treatment in the hospital, died on Thursday night during a reported power outage at the hospital.
In a release on Friday, Superintendent Dr. I. Vani said that Ms. Devi was admitted in the hospital on November 06. The duty doctor examined her and she was later shifted to the Rajendra Prasad ward. On reviewing her case history, it appeared that she was addicted to alcohol. The patient’s oxygen levels were normal, between 93% and 97%, and her blood pressure was also stable, though her pulse rate was slightly high.
On Thursday afternoon, investigations revealed that her liver function was deteriorating, apparently due to alcohol consumption. Ultrasound reports showed stones in her liver and gallbladder. “She did not require oxygen support. However, her condition suddenly worsened at night. CPR was administered, but despite efforts, she passed away. Since her oxygen levels were normal, there was no need to provide external oxygen support. Her death was not due to lack of oxygen,” Ms. Vani said.
Ms. Vani also clarified that Ms. Devi’s death has no connection to the power supply failure or oxygen shortage.
