The Khairatabad police cracked a three-month-old murder case with the arrest of a 45-year-old man accused of bludgeoning a person to death near the Khairatabad Metro Station in August.

The accused, identified as Ringula Ashok alias Pushpa alias Pashupathi, a footpath dweller, was arrested on Wednesday near Aramghar following a tip-off.

The case dates back to August 5, 2025, when an unidentified man was found lying unconscious with severe head injuries on the footpath opposite metro pillar A1174. The police were alerted by a local labourer, Doddegalla Venkatesh, who discovered the victim around midnight. A blood-stained cement stone was found beside the body.

During the investigation, the police identified the deceased as Thatha alias Narender, also a footpath dweller.

Police said Ashok confessed to killing Narender in revenge after an altercation over liquor. According to his statement, on August 1, 2025, Narender and a few others had assaulted him during a quarrel. Four days later, around 9 p.m. on August 5, Ashok spotted Narender sleeping alone at the metro station and in a fit of rage struck him on the head with a stone, leading to his death on the spot. He then fled the scene, changed his clothes, and survived by collecting scrap until he was recognised and apprehended on November 10.

The accused was produced before court and remanded to judicial custody. Police records show he has a history of criminal cases, including offences registered in 2010, 2016 and 2017 for assault, trespass among other crimes.
