Kochi has made it to the list of top 10 trending destinations in the world prepared by Booking.com, a leading travel platform.
Kochi is the only destination from the country that made it to the list. Set along the southwestern coast of the country in Kerala, the waterfront city is shaped by centuries of global trade and cultural exchange. Fort Kochi, where colourful colonial-era mansions sit beside hip art cafés and iconic Chinese fishing nets that sway against the Arabian Sea, adds to the city’s charm, said the travel platform.
The city comes especially alive during the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (January to March biennially), when historic warehouses transform into cutting-edge art spaces. Its culinary traditions, from toddy shops that dish out spicy seafood to refined plates of fish molee and coconut-rich spread; landscape; proximity to Alappuzha’s backwaters, Munnar’s misty hills, and the golden sands of Marari Beach; and easy access via Cochin International Airport helped Kochi capture the imagination of the world, it said.
Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said that this was a global recognition for Kerala and Kerala Tourism. The achievement also marks Kerala Tourism on the world tourism map and will aid the further growth of tourism in the State, he said.
