Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a joint mock exercise on disaster management and rescue operations on Gangavali River Bridge at Uttara Kannada district on November 25.

The exercise, conducted at River Bridge No. 1504 in Shiroor village in the Gokarna Road–Ankola section, was designed to assess preparedness, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and evaluate response capabilities during emergency situations in riverine and bridge environments.

As a part of the drill, operations, including the rescue of drowning persons from water, underwater rescue operations with deep divers, vertical lifting of victims from water, on-site medical assistance to rescued persons, and evacuation of stranded individuals from the bridge by the Fire Brigade, were conducted.

KRCL teams also demonstrated rescue operations, including the retrieval of drowning persons and vertical lifting operations on the bridge, using the Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) raft.

The mock drill witnessed active participation from various local agencies, including the District Disaster Management Cell, taluk medical team, State police, Fire Brigade personnel, and village panchayat authorities, ensuring a holistic and coordinated approach to emergency response.

The exercise concluded successfully, reflecting the joint commitment of KRCL and NDRF to strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring passenger safety across the Konkan Railway network, a release stated.
