Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. has said it continues to accord the highest priority to safety, ensuring that its systems, assets and operational practices are continuously monitored and enhanced through regular audits.
As part of this, Intra Railway Safety Audits are periodically undertaken across all regions to assess readiness, identify potential risks and reinforce standardised procedures that support safe and reliable train operations. In line with Railway Board directives, the Intra Railway Safety Audit of the Karwar Region was conducted on November 11 and 12.
The audit was carried out by a multidisciplinary team from the headquarters, comprising officers from the Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication and Traffic Departments, led by the Chief Safety Officer (CSO).
They were assisted by a team of Regional Officers headed by the Regional Railway Manager (RRM/Karwar) to ensure smooth execution of the audit. The team inspected various safety assets and installations and also reviewed the disaster preparedness of the Self-Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) and the Accident Relief Train (ART) stationed at Verna.

Similar to the Intra Railway Safety Audit of the Ratnagiri Region conducted in June 2025, this audit facilitates systematic improvements and promotes uniformity in work practices across regions. Good practices followed by other Zonal Railways were also examined for possible adoption. Intra Railway Safety Audits are conducted in addition to the Inter-Zonal Railway Safety Audits, which are undertaken twice a year in each region by Zonal Railways nominated by the Railway Board.
