The double-decker bus service of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in Munnar has become a success, achieving an income of ₹1 crore within nine months. KSRTC’s budget tourism cell Munnar coordinator V.S. Bijumon said that the service has so far earned an income of ₹1,00,7,400.
“The double-decker bus service operated on 263 days and conducted 781 trips. A total of 28,743 tourists enjoyed the service,” said Mr. Bijumon.
“The scenic views of tea plantations and the journey through the hairpin bends of the Munnar-Bodimettu stretch of the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway have put the double-decker service in demand,” said an official.
Sources indicate that after the success of the double-decker tourist bus service in Munnar, the KSRTC is preparing to launch another such service in the hill station.
The KSRTC launched the glass-panelled ‘Royal View’ bus for tourists in Munnar on February 9 this year. The bus is designed to provide a 360-degree view of the tea plantations and high ranges. It has a seating capacity of 38 people on the upper deck and 12 on the lower deck. The bus runs on the Munnar-Anayirankal route.
