Lack of transparency and accountability in governance and deterioration of law and order in Tamil Nadu will lead to the DMK government being voted out in the 2026 Assembly elections, said G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar).
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Vasan said, “Due to the lack of transparency and accountability in the DMK’s rule, the State has been unable to achieve the expected growth in major sectors. People of Tamil Nadu feel that treating the Union government as an enemy does not help the State in any way. The law and order problem, particularly crimes against women and children and the drug menace, has eroded public confidence in the DMK government. Because of these issues, in next year’s election, the voters will show the DMK government the door.”
He said the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu was creating awareness among the people and gaining their confidence. “As far as anti-incumbency votes are concerned, we are leading in the State. At the same time, other like-minded parties, who share the goal of ousting the DMK from power, should join us. That is the need of the hour, so that we do not give the ruling party a chance to return to power,” he observed.
Asked about the likely impact of actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on the anti-incumbency votes, Mr. Vasan said, “His goal is also to oust the DMK government. I am sure, he has more runs left in his political innings and he will definitely think about his party’s future and broader gains for him.”
