There was a large turnout at an awareness run organised by Dr. K. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation and Dr. G. Viswanatham Hospitals in Tiruchi on Sunday as part of their breast cancer awareness programme.

The Mamorun was flagged off by P. M. Yasmeen Banu, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cantonment Range, from Uzhavar Sandhai and concluded at St. John’s Vestry School Grounds. Certificates and medals were distributed to winners and participants.

As part of the ongoing campaign, the Mammo Bus, currently stationed in Tiruchi, travels across both urban and rural areas to provide on-site breast cancer screening and awareness programmes. To date, about 525 free screening camps have been organised across Tiruchi and neighbouring districts, educating over 3.75 lakh women on breast health, screening 38,225 women, and detecting 31 cases of breast cancer.

The Foundation has instituted the Dr. K. Shantha Gold Medal Examination for postgraduate and superspeciality medical students. Of the 170 registered candidates, 145 appeared for the online examination, which was conducted under two categories: General Surgery and Breast Surgery. Six finalists were shortlisted and the winner of first place in each category received a gold medal and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.
