The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won unopposed in two more wards of the Anthoor municipality, with Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] candidate E. Rajitha and K.V. Premarajan declared unopposed from the Kodallur and Thali wards.
The wins came after the returning officer rejected the nomination papers of the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates during the re-scrutiny. Their papers were rejected after it was found that the signatures in the nomination papers were forged. The proposers and seconders personally informed the returning officer that the signatures on the UDF candidates’ form were not theirs, leading to the rejection. LDF leaders alleged that the UDF obtained the signatures by misleading people.
With this results, LDF candidates have now been elected unopposed from five wards of the Anthoor municipality. CPI(M)’s T.V. Dhanya had earlier won uncontested in the Anjampeedika ward after the UDF candidate withdrew from the fray. LDF nominees K. Rajitha in the Morazha ward and K. Premachandran in the Podikundu ward had also been declared elected unopposed.
