The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has released its Thrissur Corporation election manifesto, presenting an ambitious roadmap to transform the city into a model of contemporary urban excellence. Building on a decade of development and welfare initiatives, the manifesto envisions Thrissur as an international-standard modern welfare city.

The manifesto was unveiled by Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M. V. Govindan at a function held at Thrissur on Friday. The event was presided over by P. Balachandran, MLA, who is also the president of the LDF Corporation Election Committee.

Inspired by leading global metros, the LDF proposes a “developed green city” framework that is comprehensive, sustainable, and secure. The primary goal is to evolve Thrissur into a modern urban space that preserves cultural identity and heritage while advancing scientific planning and long-term sustainability.

Top priority

Top priority has been given to strengthening the city’s core infrastructure. The Shakthan Market is being rebuilt to international standards, and construction of the new market complex has already begun, it noted.

The LDF also plans dedicated cultural, industrial, tourism, and sports corridors to accelerate growth. With emphasis on environmental harmony and heritage protection, the manifesto positions the next phase of governance as one that can turn Thrissur into a nationally recognised model city.

Other key proposals include a fully modernised bus terminal near Shakthan Stand; an elevated highway developed as per the city’s master plan; upgraded parking facilities across the Corporation; further modernisation of Kudumbashree; and leadership of the “poverty-free city” mission.

The manifesto also promises full benefits and support mechanisms for Accredited Social Health Activists; day-care centres equipped with fitness facilities; and formation of residence associations to collaborate in public development

According to the manifesto, Thrissur will be made a disability-friendly city. It promises decentralised waste management with advanced systems and a gender-focussed research centre titled Gender Park. An interaction hub for professional networking and skill updates, drug-free Thrissur, including the establishment of a de-addiction centre, and “Thanal” senior citizens’ collectives in all divisions are also included in the proposal.
